CAPE II: Son of CAPE

My 'neighborhood' comic shop is doing its big festival for free comic book day this year on May 6!
It's CAPE at Zeus comics!
If you have any way to be there, come on by! I will be helping them out with everything so odds are I'll be around somewhere. Not to mention Alice and Kit will be there too!!!
So, make plans to come by!!

I am working with a friend to get the site up and running and set up better.
In the meantime I need pictures you want posted to the site, links, items of interest. Review a movie, comic, etc.

Virgin Comics has announced Seymour Miles as its senior vice president sales and publishing. For the last 10 years, Miles led the marketing department at Wizard Entertainment.

Is this Seymour, he of the Brooklyn accent and adoring throng of ladies folowing him?Maybe.

Steve Troop of Melonpool fame, who challenged Kitty and me to a game of Squiggles, I think he called it. One of us would do a random mark on the page, and pass it to the next one. Amazing how usually it develops into a face or figure, no matter what the starting point. Steve is a very cool guy, and if you don't know about Melonpool, you should read it. Funny, funny stuff. He also does some of the most amazing puppet stuff. Builds his own muppet-type figures, and has a blast keeping his neighbors guessing about what that chemical smell is coming from his place. (It's the adhesive he uses to put the figures together.) I was by far the worst Squiggle player. Somewhat intimidated by the presence of real talent around me.

Steverino at WWT! I still can't believe what a good time we had at the con. I am getting really torn between whether I just want to keep volunteering or if I want to try a table in Artist's Alley next year myself (probably along with Kitty). I've done a lot of trade shows, and sitting behind the table can be boring at times, and one thing I never was at WWT was bored.

And all the perks of being a volunteer! Being the guy who holds the "I am soooooo last in line" sign, or my favorite, greeting and pointing at the front door to all the lost looking souls who need a ticket. Why, that even got me face to face with Ron Perlman, who actually did say hello to me as he came in with security. And then there was the getting of the very cool Sean Astin siggy. That rocks.

So, guys, good fortune willing and the creeks don't rise, I will be there in 2006. Hey, I might even want to do Chicago. It's about the same drive from here. Road trip is a road trip!

I need to get some feedback from all the volunteers. Please read and respond to this.
In talking with Steve, I'm going to register and get hosting for a volunteer website, and I wanted to get people's feelings on this. Names for the site, possibility for forums, etc. Maybe some art from Jeremy or Kit, somebody could review comics, etc. What do you guys think?
This would give us a great place for the new guys from the other shows to jump in.

I was surfing the movie trailers sites, and I found the next must see geek movie.
X3!That's right. The third X-Men movie! I wasn't too enthiused about the prospect of 'Frasier Crane' as Beast, but going by how he looks, maybe it won't suck as bad as I thought.
As good as I thought the second one was, it looks like this one will leave it in the dust. Click the link and check it out for yourself.

You guys are crazy, I love it!!! I wanted to ask you all a question. I have tons of people that are going to help volunteer for Wizard World Los Angeles, with your permission, I wanted to send them to get on the site with you guys. This way you can broaden your page and meet random people from different places. This is all your site so I wanted to ask you guys first. You can also get people to post pictures from different events. It may even inspire anyone of you to pack up and see another show in a different part of the country (you can still volunteer by the way, for any show). Give me some feed back, just a suggestion.
Anyway, hope all is well, good work with getting the job. One day I'll have to show you all how to draw a stick figure. I"M THE BEST!!!! A friend of mine that works here in the office with me has her own column on the Wizard website called "Ask Deirdre", she got asked to go on G4TV, she was on last night answering questions from random callers it was quite exciting. They flew her out ther and paid for everything. Also, they finally put my name in all the magazines we publish. So look for me starting with Wizard 171, which is already out!
To answer the other question of whether anyone had found more articles on the show. There is also one on Newsarama.com, your going to have to search for it. Alright all, I got more ads to write! I leave you with a random word of advise - Don't stand up in a canoe!

That's what it's all about, being on your toes enough to do what the Mighty Steve needs done! What a trip! This was the best one for me so far, even though I know the attendance was lighter than last year, or seemed to be. That's what competition from Nascar will getcha!

Had a blast, guys. Where else do you get to see Ron Perlman 3 feet away when he comes in with security? Or, in previous years, meet Jay and Silent Bob? Not to mention, get to hang out with the coolest artists on earth, and I don't mean just the big name ones, either!

Thanks for putting the blog together. I'll have more pics later.

This was such fun. It was my first time as a volunteer. I too cannot wait until Nov 2006! Am trying to volunteer for WWLos Angeles 2006. Hope to make a week out of the trip.
You guys were great, wish I had the camera instead of my wife otherwise would have snapped pict of the Thin Orange Line! :)

I'm glad this was put together. I had considered something similar, but I'm very busy (also ready as lazy). I had a great time at the show, got lots of free stuff and wonderful sketches. I am sorry I did not get to know more of you better, but I hope this will cure some of that. I will get the few pictures I have up soon.

Well it was a long tireing drive home but i made it. next year im flying the 13 hour car trip is no fun at all after a weekend at a convention. need a vacation form my vacation after this. had a blast this year and hope to see you all again next year.

I thought WW Texas III wsa great. The bes thing to me is the community we are building i nthe volunteer corps. I look forward to it each year. I usually have to restraing myself from volunteering as early as December. I'm sure it will be that way again this year.

Watching many of you grow, take on challenges, and find a way to make it work really is amazing. I don't go to other cons but I am wiling to bet that we have the most fun. We enjoy, and care for, each other. Ya can't beat that.

Wizard World Texas has ended for the year, and I am already looking forward to next year. Met some cool new people, some cool old friends, and had a lot of fun and worked our butts off.
